Zoanthids

Origin:

Zoanthids coral, scientifically known as Zoantharia, are a diverse group of coral species found in various regions around the world. They are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific, the Caribbean, and the Red Sea, with some species originating from Japan, Australia, and other Pacific islands.

Water Parameters:

 Temperature: Maintain a stable temperature between 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C).

Salinity: Keep salinity levels between 1.023 and 1.025.

pH: Maintain a pH level between 8.1 and 8.4.

Lighting: Zoanthids coral can adapt to a wide range of lighting conditions, but moderate to high lighting is generally recommended for optimal growth and coloration.

Water Flow: Provide moderate to strong water flow to simulate natural ocean currents. This will help remove debris and provide nutrients to the coral.

Feeding:

Zoanthids coral have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae, which are photosynthetic algae living within their tissues. However, they also benefit from supplemental feeding.

Photosynthesis: Provide adequate lighting to promote photosynthesis, which will supply the coral with energy and nutrients.

Filter Feeding: Zoanthids coral have small polyps that can capture and consume small particulate matter from the water column. They can feed on dissolved organic matter, phytoplankton, and zooplankton present in the aquarium.

Targeted Feeding: You can occasionally target-feed the coral with liquid coral foods, phytoplankton, or zooplankton. Feed them once or twice a week, using a pipette or turkey baster to place the food directly onto the coral's polyps.

Maintenance:

Water Quality: Regularly monitor water parameters using appropriate test kits to ensure stable and optimal conditions for the coral's health and growth.

Water Changes: Perform regular water changes of 10-20% every two weeks to maintain water quality and remove accumulated waste products.

Acclimation: When introducing Zoanthids coral to your tank, follow proper acclimation procedures to minimize stress.

Additional Tips:

Placement: Zoanthids coral can be placed in various locations within the tank, but they prefer moderate flow areas. Ensure they have enough space to expand and grow without being in direct contact with other corals.

WARNING:

Haddle this coral with care as they can contain and releas Pally toxin when damaged. There is no at home test to see how much your specimen may contain best practice is to not damage and take all procautions as if your specimen contains a lethal dose. That being said paly tocxin poisoning is rare and most times ingested through contaminated seafood. As a hobbyist paly tocxin often comes in contact with skin and eyes but can also can travel through aerosols. Please do ample reaserch before attempting to frag, break or kill zoanthids and palythoas.
