Torch coral

Torch Coral (Euphyllia glabrescens) Care Description

Torch Coral, also known as branching hammer coral or torch coral, is a popular and visually striking coral species found in the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Here is a care description for maintaining a healthy Dragon Soul Torch Coral in your aquarium.

 Lighting:

Provide moderate to high lighting conditions for the Torch Coral. LED or T5 fluorescent lights are recommended, with a color temperature ranging from 10,000K to 20,000K. Proper lighting is essential for the coral's growth and coloration.

 Water Parameters:

Maintain stable water parameters to ensure the well-being of the coral. The ideal temperature range is between 75°F and 80°F (24°C to 27°C), while the specific gravity should be around 1.024 to 1.026. The pH level should be around 8.1 to 8.4, and alkalinity should be maintained between 8 to 12 dKH.

 Water Flow:

Provide moderate to high water flow in the aquarium. This will help simulate natural ocean currents and prevent detritus accumulation on the coral's surface. Use powerheads or wavemakers to create a gentle and random flow pattern.

 Placement:

Place the Torch Coral in the middle to upper regions of the aquarium. Ensure that it has sufficient space for its branches to extend and grow without touching other corals or the aquarium walls. Be cautious of its sweeper tentacles, which can sting nearby corals, so provide ample space to avoid interference.

 Feeding:

The Torch Coral is primarily photosynthetic and obtains a significant portion of its nutrition through the symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae. However, it also benefits from supplemental feedings. Offer small meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or planktonic food. Feed twice a week, targeting the coral's polyps directly.

 Water Quality:

Maintain excellent water quality by performing regular water changes. This will help remove accumulated nitrates, phosphates, and other unwanted substances. Aim for a nitrate level below 10 ppm and phosphate level below 0.03 ppm. Use a reliable protein skimmer to remove organic waste.
